Sales Tax Holiday Coming Up In August
Tennessee's fifth annual sales tax holiday is scheduled for Friday, August 6th through Sunday, August 8th.
Department of Revenue officials say shoppers can save almost 10 percent on tax-free clothing, school and art supplies and computer purchases.
During the sales tax holiday, shoppers won't pay state or local sales tax on select clothing with a price of $100 or less per item, school and art supplies with a price of $100 or less per item, and computers with a price of $1500 or less.
Free Ride Saturdays Kick-off CATS Changes
Cookeville Area Transit System (CATS) is undergoing some major changes in an effort to better provide transportation to the people in the Cookeville Area.

Starting July 10, CATS buses will be running from 6 am to 6 pm Monday through Friday, and on Saturday only the Green Route will travel from 6 am to 6pm. To jump start the new changes on CATS, the bus system will be offering free ride Saturday during the month of July starting on July 10. These free ride Saturdays are in an effort to make people in the Upper Cumberland Area aware of the changes CATS will be going through in July.

“We are pleased with the recent changes in the Cookeville Area Transit System, Phyllis Bennett, UCHRA Executive Director said. These changes will allow us to accommodate a new demographic, Cookeville area morning commuters.

While CATS has developed a new schedule to accommodate a new type of ridership, they are also making changes within the bus routes. There will now be two routes running through town, the Green Route and the Purple Route. The Green Route will run in a clockwise pattern starting at the UCHRA Hub and making its first stop at Wal-Mart. The Purple Route will run in a counter-clockwise pattern starting at the Hub and making its first stop at Goodwill Shopping Center. By making routes that travel in a clockwise and counter-clockwise pattern, there will be a new ease to riding the bus. No longer will people be waiting an hour to catch the bus. There will now be a bus running every 30 to 35 minutes. With this type of change means there will know be bus signs on both sides of the road depending on which direction the bus will be traveling on for the rest of the route.

“The recent changes in the CATS will help us to better serve the people in the Cookeville and Upper Cumberland areas,” Rebecca Harris, UCHRA Transportation Director said.

Keep your ears and eyes open for more changes coming to CATS as demand for the bus system grows!

CATS new schedule and route will take effect on July 10 along with free ride Saturday for the month of July.
CRMC Is Now A Tobacco-Free Campus
Cookeville Regional Medical Center is now a totally tobacco-free campus as of July 1, 2010. No tobacco use of any kind is permitted – inside or outside – on hospital property. Designated smoking areas at the hospital have been eliminated.

As a health care organization, Cookeville Regional is committed to the health and safety of our employees and patients. We believe that we have a responsibility to take a leadership role on this major health issue, and allowing people to use tobacco products defeats this purpose.

Tobacco is the cause of death for over 9,000 Tennesseans every year and is the root cause of many illnesses and lost productivity. Tobacco use in and around hospitals poses health and safety risks for patients, employees and visitors.

Cookeville Regional’s decision to go tobacco-free is not an attempt to “force” anyone to quit using tobacco products. Rather, the tobacco-free initiative is a concrete way we can demonstrate our ongoing commitment to healthy living.

If you would like assistance on how to quit smoking, visit the Quit 4 Life Support Group on Thursday evenings at 6 pm in the hospital cafeteria conference room or call (931) 528-QUIT.
Title Sponsors for Eighth Annual CRMC Golf Classic
Celebrity Guest – Bruce Jenner
Celebrity Guest – Bruce Jenner
For the second consecutive year, Larco Medical, Inc. is this year’s presenting sponsor for Cookeville Regional Medical Center’s eighth annual Golf Classic and Celebrity Dinner. Major sponsor is Journey Financial Planning/Charles A. Sewell, CFP. Larco and Journey Financial Planning have been long-time supporters of the tournament, having been major sponsors since the event began eight years ago. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Foundation at Cookeville Regional including the Cancer Care Fund, the Caring Hands Fund and the Save-A-Life Mammogram Project.

Again this year the four-person scramble has been expanded to two days – Thursday, August 12 and Friday, August 13 at the Cookeville Golf Club with the dinner being held on Thursday evening at the Leslie Town Centre. The celebrity guest will be Olympic Hall of Famer Bruce Jenner who will speak at the dinner and will attend the Golf Classic. The dinner event will be open to the public with a limited number of tickets available for sale at $60 each or $400 for a table of eight. Tickets must be purchased prior to the event – no tickets will be available at the door.

Since the tournament was first organized seven years ago by a group of ten hospital employees, the CRMC Golf Classic has raised over $346,000 in net proceeds to assist countless individuals through the Cancer Care Fund, the Caring Hands Fund and the Save-A-Life Mammogram Project. In the past year 484 patients have received much needed assistance totaling over $113,000 in direct financial aid.

The Cancer Care Fund helps cancer patients being treated at Cookeville Regional with needs not met by insurance. Through generous donations from patients, members of the community and events like the golf tournament, the Cancer Care Fund has provided assistance to patients in the form of utility bills, gasoline vouchers, house payments, medicine, groceries and medical supplies. The Caring Hands Fund at Cookeville Regional was developed just three years ago to help other patients at Cookeville Regional with medication needs and other necessities. The Save-A-Life Mammogram Project exists to provide free mammogram screenings for women in our region who are underinsured or uninsured. Donations to all three of these funds and the Foundation at Cookeville Regional are tax-deductible.
