It is not often that one gets to eat award-winning food. However, that is exactly what we were treated to on our visit. Spring Creek Pie Company in Rickman proudly displays their many blue ribbons from the Overton County Fair on the wall behind the counter. Allow us to say that the awards were well deserved. Spring Creek Pie Company got its start about nine years ago supplying delicious pies and various desserts to many restaurants in Cookeville. Many of you have probably tasted their wares at places like Spankies, ‘Tis Bar-B-Q, Mauricio’s, Poets on the Square, and Strouds Barbecue, among others. Five years ago, owners Sheila and Greg Cupp added sandwiches to their repertoire and moved the business into the current location at 245 W. Netherland Road in Rickman. They are not difficult to find, and it will be well worth your time to search them out. As soon as we walked in the door, we were amazed at the large selection of desserts on the menu. It almost made us skip lunch and go straight to the sweet stuff. These choices included Turtle Cheesecake, Strawberry Cheesecake, Raspberry Cream Cake, Apple Pie, Bread Pudding, Fudge Pie, Chess Pie, Buttermilk Pie, Pecan Pie, and a Chocolate Raspberry Roll. The lunch menu leaves little to be desired and includes 14 different sandwich choices. Brian tried the Pastrami & Swiss with Potato Soup. Joey sampled the Rueben with Potato Soup as well. The sandwiches were tremendous and the soup was to die for. We enjoyed our meal while looking out the window at some very peaceful Overton County countryside. The highlight of the meal was when dessert arrived. We had some of the Turtle Cheesecake and the Strawberry Cheesecake. This alone was worth the drive to Rickman. The next time you are thinking of a good place to have lunch, we whole-heartedly recommend Spring Creek Pie Company. They are located just off Highway 111, ten miles north of I-40. The hours are 8:00 a.m. till 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and lunch is served from 11:00 a.m. till 2:00 p.m. They also make delightful Gift Baskets as well as Dessert & Sandwich Trays. To order, call 931-498-4068 or fax 931-498-4468. When you visit Spring Creek Pie Company, tell Sheila and Greg that the guys from Eating Tennessee told you to come by.
