There is nothing that we can think of that will ease the winter’s chill better than a hearty and wholesome bowl of soup. We have found just the place for you to visit to fight off the bitter cold this winter. It is a restaurant called The Soup Kitchen in Cookeville . They are located at 20 W. Broad Street in the heart of the historic downtown area. Owner George Seagrave has done a wonderful job of putting together a delicious menu and providing a very inviting atmosphere in which to dine. The building where the restaurant is located has been beautifully restored. The motto at The Soup Kitchen is “Original Homemade Goodness”, and that motto rings true. We think you will agree when you decide to pay them a visit. On the day when we dropped in recently, we were greeted by a great selection of hot homemade soups. The selection included Hearty Vegetable, Chili, Broccoli Cheddar, Cream of Potato, Shrimp Newburg, Cajun Red Bean, German Potato, Chicken Noodle, and Chicken Medley. We sampled the Cream of Potato and the German Potato, and we found them both to be very well made. The flavors were out of this world. They offer a nice selection of homemade breads to accompany your meal. These include Cheddar Bread, Cornbread, White Bread, and a fabulous Mexican Cornbread. You can also enjoy one of their sandwiches with your soup. Choices include Turkey & Swiss, Ham & Cheese, and Roast Beef & Smoked Cheddar. One of our favorite menu items is called a Souper Baked Potato, which is a huge Baked Potato covered with your choice of Soup. It adds a whole new dimension of flavor to any of the soups on the menu. The Soup Kitchen also offers some really good salads. You can choose from the Garden Salad, Antipasto, Tortellini, Chicken Waldorf, or Fruit Salad. When your meal is almost finished, remember to save room for a homemade muffin or dessert. The muffin menu includes Blueberry Cream, Cranberry Nut, Glorious Morning, and Double Chocolate. For dessert you will enjoy the Pumpkin Roll, Christmas Cake, or the Cranberry Meringue. We highly recommend that you visit The Soup Kitchen in the near future. They are open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. They are closed on Sunday. They also have a private dining room upstairs that is the perfect place to rent out for parties.
