Ruth’s Family Restaurant

By Brian Eads and Joey Isabell

Buffet. That is a word which normally strikes dread into the heart of anyone who loves good food. However, nothing could be further from the truth when speaking about Ruth’s Family Restaurant in Jamestown. Ruth Mullinix has been serving the best in southern-style home cooking for the past 8 years. This restaurant is known far and wide as the place to go for All-You-Can-Eat homemade goodness. Ruth’s is very easy to find, located at 331 N. Main Street in Jamestown, right next door to the Dollar General Store.

We have enjoyed eating at Ruth’s for many years. Unfortunately, neither of us had eaten there for several months, and our visit on June 5th was just as we remembered. The food was spectacular. The buffet menu included Meatloaf, Barbecue Ribs, Salmon Patties, Polish Sausage & Sauerkraut, Chicken Livers, and Chicken with Rice Soup. The vegetable choices included Mashed Potatoes, Green Beans, Fried Okra, Fried Yellow Squash, and sliced Tomatoes straight from a nearby garden. Ruth’s also offers a full salad bar and some wonderful dessert choices. The Apple Cobbler we had was a small slice of heaven. These choices change daily.

When visiting many large chain restaurants that offer a buffet, one tends to find the food mass produced and prepared without a drop of tender loving care. At Ruth’s the choices are well thought out and prepared just like Mom would make it, from scratch. If you leave Ruth’s hungry, you are just not trying hard enough. Their hours are Tuesday through Thursday 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday and Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., and Sunday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. They are closed on Mondays. You can contact them at 931-879-8182. When you go, tell Ruth that the guys Eating Tennessee sent you.
