COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech women's tennis team cleared another hurdle -- and did so with ease -- on its run toward a possible 2003 Ohio Valley Conference regular season championship. The Golden Eaglettes swept every event in posting a 7-0 victory at Austin Peay, pushing their record to 4-0 in the league with only two matches remaining.

Tech is now 30-1 against OVC opponents during the regular season in the past five years, including 12 wins in a row. The Eaglettes were 8-0 in 1999, 7-0 in 2000, 4-1 in 2001 and 7-0 last year, with the lone loss coming at Murray State.

Coach Aldrin Campos' team plays at Eastern Kentucky on Saturday (April 12), then finishes the schedule with a home match against Tennessee State next Tuesday (April 15).

Tuesday's match was quick, with the Tech doubles teams losing only two points and all six singles matches ending in straight sets. Austin Peay (1-17/0-6 OVC) lost its ninth consecutive match.

Marina Tasheva and Anita Obando posted an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles, while Ana Marie Cibils and Alet Boonzaaier claimed the No. 2 match by the same score. At No. 3, Alicja Kutyla and Maja Russinova pitched a shutout, winning 8-0.

Kutyla (6-0, 6-0) at No. 5 and Boonzaaier (6-1, 6-1) at No. 4 had the easiest time in their singles wins. Cibils won (6-2, 6-1) at No. 2 and Obando won (6-1, 6-2) at No. 3. The only players who were pushed beyond eight games were Tasheva (6-4, 6-1) at No. 1, and Russinova (6-3, 6-1) at No. 6.

Tech is 6-6 overall in dual matches.
