EIU sends Tech home with second road loss, 64-46

By TTU Sports Information

February 04, 2003

The Golden Eaglettes dropped the second game of an OVC road trip, losing 64-46 to Eastern Illinois in Charleston.

Emily Christian scored Tech's first six points and gave Tech (7-12, 2-5 OVC) its last lead at 9-6 with her seventh point at 14:29 in the first half. However, from there, the Lady Panthers (5-15, 4-5) outscored the visitors 26-15 to take a 32-24 lead at halftime. Arleigh Brackin kept the Eaglettes close with a trio of three pointers in the half.

Two free throws by Tynisha Alexander cut the lead to 32-26 to open the second half. However, the Eaglettes could pull no closer, only scoring two points over the next nine minutes as EIU built a 43-28 lead. The Eaglettes mounted a small comeback, reducing the lead to nine points at the 5:55 mark as Tamara Gilyard and Lindsey Jones combined for nine points off the bench during the stretch. EIU responded with a 13-1 run to end the comeback hopes.

The backcourt tandem of Megan Sparks and Lauren Dailey combined for 33 points, with Sparks recording 18 points and nine rebounds. Arleigh Brackin led the Tech offense with 12 points and Christian recorded her fourth double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Tech returns to Cookeville to open an OVC doubleheader against UT-Martin on Saturday, February 8. Game time is 5:30pm as the Golden Eaglettes seek to avenge an earlier loss to UTM.
