Tennis Teams Sweep the Weekend

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. The Tennessee Tech University Golden Eagles and Golden Eaglettes were riding high this weekend as the
TTU tennis teams knocked off the University of Tennessee-Martin and Georgia State University.
Led by singles and doubles victories from Luis Aguerrevere and Will Chappell, the Golden Eagles knocked off the University of
Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks, 6-1. Aguerrevere rolled to a 6-4, 6-0 victory at the No. 4 singles position and teamed up with Simon
Tremblay at the No. 2 doubles match to claim an 8-3 victory. Chappell, playing No. 5 for the Golden Eagles, won his singles match 6-1,
6-1 and followed that up by earning a 9-7 victory at the No. 3 doubles match with partner Piotr Wawrzyniak.
Tech also got singles victories from Gernot Fischer (6-3, 6-3), Razvan Ilie (7-5, 6-2) and Jorge Ascencio (6-3, 6-1).
The Golden Eaglettes were put to the test this weekend, but came away with victories over the University of Tennessee-Martin and
Georgia State by identical 4-3 scores.
Luciana Tamburini , Maja Russinova and Anita Obando went three sets each before claiming singles victories against UTM. Tamburini
won 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, while Russinova won 6-2, 6-7, 6-2 and Obando took a 0-6, 7-5, 6-3 decision. Tech won all three doubles matches.
Ana Marie Cibils and Karmelina Rivera rolled to an 8-6 victory at the No. 1 spot, while Lupita Hernandez and Obando won the No. 2
match, 8-6. Louise Holmvik and Russinova picked up a victory at the No. 3 spot, slipping by with a 9-8 win.
Tech took two of three doubles matches and claimed three of the six singles matches to come out with a 4-3 victory over Georgia State.
Hernandez rolled over Klara Miklikova at the No. 1 singles position, 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 and Rivera won her No. 4 singles match, downing
Rebecca Mitchell, 6-3, 6-1. Holmvik won her singles match at the No. 6 spot by default. Hernandez and Cibils won their doubles match
at the No. 1 spot by an 8-5 decision, while Tech took the No. 3 doubles match by default.
